Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young calls on residents to stay home, follow Governor Larry Hogan’s Executive Order
Mayor urges residents, businesses to follow Governor’s order, prevent spread of disease
BALTIMORE, MD. — Today, Governor Larry Hogan announced an executive order that includes a Stay At Home directive, ordering residents to remain in their homes or places of residence beginning at 8 p.m. tonight.
Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young issued the following statement:
“I support Governor Hogan’s decision to issue this directive, and urge all residents to follow it,” Mayor Young said. “In order to flatten the curve of this disease and save as many lives as possible, we need to give our health care workers and essential employees the space that they need to work.”
The executive order includes exceptions that allow residents to continue engaging in certain essential activities, such as grocery shopping, obtaining medical care, exercising, or caring for a family member. Residents who violate the order will be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year imprisonment, up to a $5,000 fine, or both.
Today’s order will not impact essential City services. Police, Fire, and emergency responders will continue to respond to 911 calls, and trash and recycling will still be picked up. Additionally, the Emergency Operations Center will remain active to manage the City’s response to the virus.
“We need our residents to follow this directive, and remain at home unless you need to engage in one of the essential activities spelled out in the order,” Mayor Young said. “We need to do our part so that our doctors, nurses, and health care workers have the support they need to save lives.”
