Mayor Young & County Executive Olszewski Announce Halt to Water Shut-Offs during State of Emergency
BALTIMORE, MD. — Today, Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski announced that they will issue joint Executive Orders stating that, effective immediately, neither jurisdiction will turn off water service for failure to pay.
The joint orders by Mayor Young and County Executive Olszewski come at a time when both leaders are working to help provide safe and healthy environments as their residents navigate an unprecedented public health outbreak related to the COVID-19 virus.
“It is critical that we ensure residents have all the essential resources and services they need to safeguard themselves and their families,” Mayor Young said. “All residents in the Baltimore region can be assured that their services will continue regardless of their ability to pay, while we continue to work through this public health crisis.”
“All residents across our region need access to basic services like water,” Baltimore County Executive Olszewski said. “During uncertain times, such as these, this commitment to our residents represents another step in our efforts to ensure their safety and health as we manage this crisis together.”
The order from Mayor Young and County Executive Olszewski will remain in place while Maryland is under a State of Emergency.
