Baltimore Street Roadway Resurfacing Update:  Construction From Charles to South Streets Will Soon Begin

Baltimore, MD (October 13, 2019) – The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that roadway resurfacing activities continue along a portion of Baltimore Street.

Resurfacing work along Baltimore Street between Howard and Gay Streets began in October of 2019, and Phase I of the project (Howard Street to Charles Street) is now complete.  Phase II construction (Charles Street to South Street) will begin on or about Friday, November 15, 2019, which includes sidewalk repairs, new ADA ramps, structure adjustments, and milling and paving of the roadway.  During construction, daily lane closures will be implemented along this stretch of Baltimore Street from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

In addition to the daily lane closures, work crews will implement weekend closures along this portion of Baltimore Street which begin at 12:00 a.m. on Friday and continue through 4:00 p.m. on Saturday each weekend throughout the duration of the project, starting this Friday, November 15, 2019.  Detour signs will be posted during the closures and motorists should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns.  MTA buses will also be detoured during the weekend closures of Baltimore Street, so residents are encouraged to visit mta.maryland.gov for additional information.

During construction, motorists should be on the watch for various lane closures and traffic pattern shifts along this portion of Baltimore Street.  Motorists are also strongly encouraged to pay close attention to posted parking restrictions that are needed so that work can be performed expeditiously.  Parking restrictions will be posted at least 72 hours in advance of any work activities, and violators will be ticketed and towed.

Phase II is scheduled to be finished in early December, weather permitting.  Phase III (South Street to Gay Street), will begin once Phase II construction is complete.  Temporary roadway striping will be done as soon as possible, with permanent striping being done in the spring when the weather gets warmer.
