Ashburton Tanks Construction to Impact Traffic
The next phase of the construction of underground drinking water tanks at Lake Ashburton will include periodic impacts to traffic on Liberty Heights Avenue and North Hilton Street.
This phase of work is scheduled to begin in early September, and continue for approximately six months. The work will affect traffic on some days – though not every day – between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., for about five minutes. The streets that will be impacted by these construction activities are:
- 3200-3300 Blocks of North Hilton Street
- 3000-3200 Blocks of Liberty Heights Avenue
Traffic control signs will be posted to inform residents and motorists when to avoid the Lake Ashburton area due to traffic. Residents and commuters can expect a moderate amount of noise from construction operation.
In addition, the sidewalk on the south side of Liberty Heights Avenue, adjacent to the eastbound lane, will be closed. Pedestrians are asked to cross the street to use the sidewalk. Jersey barriers will be installed to protect the work zone from vehicle traffic. This barrier and sidewalk closure will be in place until the tank construction is completed.
Residents and commuters are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid traffic on N. Hilton St. and Liberty Heights Ave. near Lake Ashburton for the next few months. Motorists are advised to follow posted signs and instructions from traffic control personnel. Delays should last only for a few minutes.
