Mayor Young Announces Executive Leadership Team

BALTIMORE, MD.  — Today, Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young announced his executive leadership team for his new administration.

Kim Morton will serve as Chief of Staff, Carolyn Mozell will serve as Deputy
Chief of Staff for Neighborhood and Economic Development, Pete
Hammen will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff for Human Services, Sheryl
Goldstein will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Geri Byrd
will serve as Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration and External Affairs.

“I am excited to announce my executive team. With more than 85 years of
combined public service experience, I have full confidence that this team
has the ability to hit the ground running. They are all tireless servants for
the residents of Baltimore,” said Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young. “My
administration will be focused on reducing crime in our city, creating
pathways to success for our youth and cleaning up Baltimore.”

Kim Morton has 29 years of public service experience. She began her
career as a prosecutor with the State’s Attorney’s Office and has held
leadership positions in the Governor’s Office, Mayor’s Office and the
nonprofit sector. Kim received her Juris Doctorate from the University of
Maryland.

Carolyn Mozell began her public service career in 1985 for a United States
Congressman and has worked in a position of leadership for a City
Councilman, a Maryland State Delegate, two Mayors and two City Council
Presidents. Most recently, Carolyn served as the Chief of Staff for then
Council President Young and has been integral in his transition to mayor.

Pete Hammen represented the 46th legislative district in the Maryland
House of Delegates from January 1995 to December 2016. While a
member of the state legislature, Pete received numerous awards for his
work and expertise on guiding health policy. Pete joined the Mayor’s Office
in December 2016 and served as Chief of Operations.

Sheryl Goldstein is the Vice President of the Abell Foundation.  Prior to
joining the Abell Foundation in 2018, Sheryl was the Managing Director of
Programs and Grants at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation. She
previously served as the Director of the Mayor’s Office on Criminal Justice
in Baltimore from 2007 through 2012.

Geri Royale Byrd began her career in public service in 2009 as a
Correspondence Analyst and Investment Board Coordinator for the U.S.
Department of Treasury, Office of Financial Stability (OFS). Leveraging her
extensive technical communications experience, over the last 15 years she
has held a scope of management and committee chair roles in the private
and non-profit business sector. In 2016 she was appointed by Waterfront
Partnership as the Marketing Manager for the Harbor Commuter
Connections Initiative. Since 2017, Geri has actively served as Director of
Logistics and Special Assistant to the Mayor and most recently Deputy
Chief of Staff. Geri is a graduate of University of Maryland College Park
where she received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of
Journalism.
