The Summit is a one day event from 8:30AM to 4:30 PM. Coffee and pastries as well as lunch will be included. After a keynote address in the morning, attendees will be able to choose from a variety of panel presentations. The full schedule will be released in April. Snapshot of Our Community: Baltimore Multicultural Calendar
In fall 2017, Dr. Felipe Filomeno, an ardent supporter of MIMA’s work, and a group of undergraduate students at UMBC developed the Baltimore Intercultural Calendar, which catalogues immigrant festivals throughout the year. Dr. Filomeno notes that “cultural festivals of immigrant communities are some of the most visible features of Baltimore’s cultural landscape,” and MIMA is truly grateful for his team’s work to capture these important celebrations of Baltimore’s Heritage in one document.
You can access the calendar here, and may you find many opportunities to learn about the thriving cultures that coexist across Baltimore!

National Happenings: The American Dream and Promise Act
On March 12th, House Democrats introduced H.R. 6, or the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019, which seeks to provide permanent status and pathway to Citizenship for Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients currently facing uncertainty due to the federal government’s decision to terminate TPS and DED for certain countries. According to the Center of American Progress, the average TPS holder has lived in the United States for 22 years, while the average dreamer with DACA came to the United States at the age of 6.
This month, the New American Economy produced data on the economic contributions of DACA and TPS holders. The organization also created a way to voice your support to permanently protect Dreamers and TPS recipients by supporting the Dream and Promise Act!
