Department of Transportation Issues RFP for Druid Park Lake Drive Complete Streets Design Effort

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation Director Michelle Pourciau today announced that an official Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued for the Druid Park Lake Drive Complete Streets design effort.  BCDOT now invites multi-disciplinary design and engineering firms to submit proposals to provide a transportation study and design services for complete streets improvements along Druid Park Lake Drive.  

 

Through the Office of Boards and Commissions, DOT is seeking certified proposals to provide a comprehensive transportation study and design services for complete streets planning along a portion of Druid Park Lake Drive.  Using Complete Streets design principles, this effort aims to address safety challenges that citizens face when trying to access Druid Hill Park from the busy Druid Park Lake Drive corridor that extends from I-83 to Greenspring Avenue.

“We are excited to issue this RFP which will help us to reimagine the use of our public space and explore innovative solutions to improve access and safety for communities surrounding this stretch of Druid Park Lake Drive,” said Director Pourciau.  “Utilizing Complete Streets design elements, we are working to implement smart investments in biking, pedestrian, transit and multi-modal infrastructure that transform the quality of life in city neighborhoods.”

On the heels of the successful Big Jump project, BCDOT is looking to evaluate conditions and features along this historical corridor to implement improvements that incorporate Complete Streets best design practices.  Druid Park Lake Drive encompasses the park’s 745 acres, and is a main thoroughfare for motorists traveling into and out of Baltimore City.  With its wide travel lanes and busy traffic, conditions along this stretch of roadway are challenging for anyone traveling outside of an automobile.  Making it safer for residents to walk and bike, along with providing better connectivity for neighborhoods in this vicinity, is the goal of this initiative.

 

“Over the past couple of years we have been able to assemble a group of key stakeholders around this effort to reimagine this critical corridor for the benefit of the broader community,” said Councilman Leon Pinkett.  “Under the leadership of Director Pourciau and her team, today’s announcement marks a significant step towards achieving that goal.”

 

BCDOT invites interested proposers to attend a prebid meeting on Monday, March 11, 2019, at 417 E. Fayette Street (7^th floor, Chen Conference Room).  RFP applications for the Druid Park Lake Drive Complete Streets design should be submitted to the Baltimore City Office of Boards and Commissions by noon on Friday, March 29, 2019.
