Baltimore City  Snow Team Will Continue  to Treat Roads as Overnight Precipitation May Impact Driving Conditions

Storm continues to bring mixed precipitation to the Baltimore region

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation Director Michelle Pourciau would like to encourage citizens to plan ahead for additional inclement weather that is forecast for the Baltimore region.  Mixtures of snow, rain and ice are expected to continue throughout the night, which may impact driving conditions and affect commute times on Tuesday morning.

The Baltimore City Snow Team has been closely monitoring weather and roadway conditions.   Crews have been treating city streets since late Sunday evening, and will continue operations throughout the remainder of the storm.

“With the possibility of freezing precipitation early tomorrow, we urge citizens to drive with extreme caution during the morning commute and to delay their travels if possible,” said Director Michelle Pourciau. “Citizens should remember that anything which looks wet could be ice, and that driving conditions can deteriorate rapidly throughout the storm.”

Citizens are encouraged to plan ahead and be prepared for the Tuesday morning commute, as mixed precipitation may cause hazardous driving conditions.  Roadways may become slick, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses, and along infrequently traveled roadways.  Motorists who must travel are strongly advised to allow additional commute time, drive at reduced speeds and increase stopping distance for everyone’s safety.  Drivers are also reminded not to pass working snow plows and to allow plenty of following distance so that plow drivers have room to maneuver.

For updated weather forecasts and traffic conditions, citizens should tune into local media stations.  Citizens can also find updated information at snow.baltimorecity.gov and by following DOT on Twitter @BmorecityDOT and Facebook at Baltimore City Department of Transportation.
