Baltimore City Fire Department Quarterly Newsletter
 CHIEF'S CORNER
We’ve had a
great year thus far within the Baltimore City Fire Department. As our third
quarter of 2018 closes, I’d like to highlight some of the progress we’ve made
with the support of BCFD members, community partners and elected officials.
Within the third
quarter, we achieved some significant milestones. For decades, women have been
on the front lines of fire departments, but we’re proud to say that in August we
witnessed the first Latina woman graduate from The Academy and join the ranks
of our fire department as an EMT/FF.
As an agency,
we are continuously striving for excellence. In the third quarter, the
Baltimore City Fire Department was awarded a $6 million Staffing for Adequate
Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant to pay for personnel costs and to
retain 40 full-time fire suppression positions. In September, residents in
North and South Carolinas experienced the devastation from Hurricane Florence
and as a result, nine BCFD members were deployed to North Carolina to assist
with recovery efforts and deliver food and water to stranded residents.
I hope you take the time to explore this
BCFD Newsletter. As always, I remain confident in the efforts from the members
of the Baltimore City Fire Department, their hard-work and dedication is seen
through the quality of work they perform each day. As an agency, we will
continue to face challenges, but I’m certain the challenges we face will be
executed with a great deal of “Pride Protecting People.”
