It's that time of year again - one of new beginnings, new friendships and new adventure! It was a joy to welcome back students for their first day of the new school year this past week. We have no higher priority than supporting, encouraging and cheering-on our young people as they make their way toward a bright future for themselves and for us all!
New Shiloh Village Apartments Opening
Mayor Catherine E. Pugh is joined by Bon Secours CEO, Samuel Ross, Rev. Harold Carter Jr. of New Shiloh Baptist Church, First Lady of Maryland Yumi Hogan and City Council President Jack Young to cut the ribbon on the New Shiloh Village Apartments
Creating quality housing for Baltimore's senior community is a priority for my administration. Housing communities
such as the New Shiloh Village Apartments helps to improve the quality of life for the families who live here, and
also improves the landscape of West Baltimore. This project is a great example of collaboration between the City, the private sector (Bon Secours) and the faith community (New Shiloh Baptist Church).

It is always a moving experience to participate in the Together We Serve 9/11 Day of Service honoring those lost on September 11, 2001. This year, I joined 400 volunteers, organized by The 6th Branch, and more than 15 corporate and community partners to focus on clearing and improving vacant lots in the Broadway East neighborhood of East Baltimore. This is the seventh year of Together We Serve hosted by The 6th Branch. Thank you to all who made this day so meaningful and impactful!

80 Minority & Women-owned business enterprises (M/WBEs) have invested to participate in
year three of a 10-week construction management training program created to
make local M/WBEs contract-ready for more than $3 billion in utility
construction work, including Consent Decree sewer rehabilitation and replacement,
and capital improvements under drinking water, stormwater and wastewater
programs.

The Baltimore City
Community Action Partnership is one of four programs under the Mayor’s Office
of Human Services. The mission of Baltimore City Community Action Partnership
is to reduce poverty by offering opportunities for low-income households
through education, financial empowerment, housing and energy services, food
resources and capacity building. This new site at 1731
E. Chase Street now houses CAP’s administrative office, Office of Home Energy
Programs (OHEP) Operations and the Eastern CAP Center.
Weekly Violence Reduction Initiative Community Walk
Mayor Catherine E. Pugh and Councilwoman Shannon Sneed tour the Broadway East neighborhood during the Mayor's weekly Community VRI.
Each and every week, my department and agency leaders, our Police District commanders and I walk a designated neighborhood of our City to see first-hand the issues that have the potential to contribute to crime and violence. These neighborhood walks are an essential part of our Violence Reduction Initiative (VRI) which convenes every other morning of the week at Police Headquarters. Despite an unacceptable level of non-fatal shootings, violence and crime continue their downward trend. Total violent crime across the City is down 16%, while in our designated VRI zones, violent crime is down a full 27%. We will not let-up in our determination to make our City safer for all citizens.
