Annual City Mitten Tree Giving Campaign Kicks-off December 1

 
 
 
Public Works Deputy Director Benjamin “Ben” Meli will lead the ceremonies for the 38th Annual Mitten Tree collection on Thursday, December 1, 2011. The fun begins 11:00 a.m. with music by the Department of Public Works/ Department of Transportation Employee Band & Singers in the lobby of the Abel Wolman Municipal Building, 200 Holliday Street.
 
Deputy Director Meli will be joined by Department of General Services Director Ted Atwood, Department of Transportation Director Khalil Zaied and Major Susan Dewan, Assistant Commander for the Salvation Army Baltimore Area Command.  The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs, Franklin Square Unit and students from Cecil Elementary School sing and join Santa to help toss the first mittens on the tree.
 
Citizens and Baltimore City employees are encouraged to help decorate the tree with mittens, gloves, hats and scarves through Wednesday, December 14, 2011.  Donations can be mailed to: The Baltimore City Department of Public Works Office of the Director 600 Abel Wolman Municipal Building 200 Holliday Street Baltimore, Maryland 21202.  All donations will be distributed to children in need through the Salvation Army Baltimore Command.
