REVISED:  Portion of Frederick Avenue Closed Due to Flood Damage

Repair work expected to take at least a week; detours now in effect 

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a portion of Frederick Avenue is now closed due to flood damage from Sunday’s heavy rains.  

At this time, Frederick Avenue is now closed to through traffic in both directions between Beechfield Avenue and Northbend Road with detours in effect.  Crews are now in the process of evaluating roadway damage, and at this time it is unclear how long this portion of Frederick Avenue will remain closed.  Repair work may take several weeks or longer to complete in order to safely restore the roadway. 

Motorists should be advised that all traffic along this portion of Frederick Avenue will be detoured until repair work is complete.  Citizens should plan ahead by allowing additional travel time, especially during peak commute times in the morning and late afternoon.  Commuters are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes in order to avoid delays.  Suggested alternate routes include Route 40 and Edmondson Avenue. 

Citizens who use the MTA along Frederick Avenue should be aware that bus route diversions are also in effect along the CityLink Purple line.  Additional information about the bus route diversions can be found on the MTA’s website at https://mta.maryland.gov/advisories. 

Frederick Avenue Detour Routes:

Eastbound – Eastbound Frederick Avenue traffic will be detoured left on North Bend Road, right on Edmondson Avenue, right on Edmondson Avenue where it merges with Route 40, right on Athol Avenue, and left back to Frederick Avenue.

Westbound – Westbound Frederick Avenue traffic will be detoured right on Athol Avenue, left on Edmondson Avenue, left on Edmondson as it splits from Route 40, left on North Bend Road, and right back onto Frederick Avenue.
