Last month, Mayor
Pugh was awarded the 2018 DollarWise Innovation Grant during the 86th U.S.
Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting. Baltimore was one of three cities to
receive the award, thanks to MIMA’s proposal to integrate Baltimore City’s
Community Action Partnership (CAP) financial literacy services with Baltimore
City Community College’s English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum. Under
the proposal, CAP will provide sessions and one-on-one financial coaching to
BCCC’s ESL students. In addition, the project will develop a series of PSAs
tailored to English Language Learners in partnership with CharmTV to bring
information into the homes and webpages of immigrants for whom English is not
their first language. Read More.

This month, Mayor Pugh joined over 160 mayors to

funding; qualified Census Bureau leadership; and a full rejection of untested
questions that threaten to undermine census preparations and accuracy. This most
recent census is of particular concern, since the Department of Justice has
requested to add a question about citizenship to the 2020 Census questionnaire,
threatening the Census Bureau’s ability to conduct an inclusive enumeration
that accurately reflects the diverse fabric of America. Read More.
