CHIEF'S CORNER

The Baltimore City Fire Department had a remarkable third quarter. This was an opportunity for the men and women of the Baltimore City Fire Department to engage with community members by participating in a number of community engagement opportunities throughout Baltimore City—where we saw substantial growth.

The Baltimore City Fire Department embodies a group of extremely talented men and women. As we enter into the winter months, this is a great time for City residents to call 311 to have free smoke alarms installed in their home—wherever needed. Our goal is to make sure all residents remain safe with their home heating needs.

In the coming months, we will continue to focus our attention on the safety of our residents. From October 8 through 14, we will celebrate Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme, “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!” is a citywide initiative where members of the Baltimore City Fire Department will help all city residents develop home escape plans.

Throughout the third quarter, several members of the Baltimore City Fire Department were promoted to Chief’s, Captain’s and Lieutenant’s; members from Locals 964 and 734 donated to the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center, the Baltimore City Fire Foundation hosted their annual golf tournament, I was able to join the children at the Ronald McDonald House for their annual fundraiser dinner and luncheon; and the Baltimore Orioles invited several Chiefs and Firefighters to the pre-game to help a group of children recite the Junior Fire Marshal Pledge and Chief Roman Clark had the esteemed pleasure of throwing out the first pitch.

As always, I remain confident in the efforts from the members of the Baltimore City Fire Department, their hard-work and dedication is seen through the quality of work each day. As an agency, we will continue to face challenges, but I’m certain the challenges we face will be executed with a great deal of “Pride Protecting People”.

Your brother in service to the City of Baltimore,

Fire Chief Niles R. Ford, PhD
