Thursday, August 17, 2017 – (Baltimore, MD) – From the sales of a few hundred pink Baltimore City Fire Department t-shirts, two fire department unions; Locals 964 and 734 raised money to donate to the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC).

On Friday, August 18, Chief Niles R. Ford and members from Locals 964 and 734, will present a donation to the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center.

“We are very grateful to the men and women of the Baltimore City Fire Department and local Unions 964 & 734 for their tireless efforts to make this generous donation possible,” said Sara P. Fogarty, DO, breast surgeon and associate director of GBMC’s Sandra and Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Care Center. “We can’t thank them enough for the help they are providing us in our daily fight against breast cancer and for what they are doing for the community. We are truly humbled and honored.”

The Sandra and Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center sees and treats nearly 2,500 patients each year and donations received will go towards a holistic breast cancer support system; such as breast surgery aftercare kits, therapy and other recovery options. Raksin said, “the diagnosis of cancer can change a life.”

“There are so many ways people can provide support and help towards Breast Cancer Awareness,” said Chief Niles R. Ford, Baltimore City Fire Chief. ”The fact that Local Unions 964 and 734 took the initiative to raise money for a good cause was remarkable. Making the decision to donate to the Sandra and Malcolm Berman Comprehensive Breast Cancer Center was a great opportunity to keep the money local and we knew it would help a lot of people.”
