Four Critically Injured; Two Deceased in NW Baltimore House Fire

March 3, 2017 – (Baltimore, MD) – Just after 2:00 a.m., Baltimore City Firefighters responded to the scene of a 1-alarm fire in the 2800 block of Lawina Road in NW Baltimore. Upon arrival units found a 2 and a half story occupied dwelling with heavy smoke and fire showing from the first floor. 

There were seven occupants inside the home at the time of the fire. Firefighters were able to pull seven people out of the home; six from the first floor and one from the second floor. Six of the occupants were taken to area hospitals in critical condition and one person refused treatment. Two of the occupants were later pronounced dead.

It was determined that the home was being operated as Kozy Kottage, an assisted living facility.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the age and gender of the deceased have yet to be released. The cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

The fire was placed under control at 3:32 a.m. There were no reported injuries to firefighters. 

So far this year, there have been nine fire fatalities in Baltimore City.
