BPD: Command Promotions

BALTIMORE, MD / October 14, 2011 - Baltimore Police Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld, III  today announced several command-level promotions and transfers. 

Lt. Colonel Garnell Green was named commander of the Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division.  He is a 22-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department and most recently served as the Westside Area Commander of the Patrol Division.  His previous assignments have included the Western, Northwest and Northeast Patrol Districts and the Criminal Investigation and Internal Affairs Divisions.  

Lt. Colonel Robert Booker will take the helm as the Westside Area Commander.  Lt. Col. Booker has been the Major of the Western District for the last two years, and has over 19-years of service with the Baltimore Police Department.  He has worked in districts throughout Baltimore City and has experience in the both the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions.  

Major Clifton McWhite is a 16-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department and most recently served as the Deputy Major of the Special Investigation Section.  Major McWhite has been appointed Commander of the Western District where he has previously served as Deputy Major.  His previous assignments have included the Southwest District, Education & Training Section and the Homicide Unit.  

Martin Bartness is being promoted to the rank of Deputy Major and will oversee the Special Investigation Section.  Deputy Major Bartness joined the Baltimore Police Department in 1997.  He has served in the Patrol Division, the Organized Crime Division and most recently in the Operations Bureau where he was the Executive Officer to the Deputy Commissioner of Operations.  

These promotions and transfers will be effective immediately.
