DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials and institutions of State Government. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown, leads the Office with a key focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for an experienced attorney to represent the Maryland School for the Deaf. The Assistant Attorney General will be responsible for providing advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees, Superintendent, and staff, as well as handling administrative appeals and litigation as needed. Areas of advice will encompass all agency needs, including contracts, procurement, personnel, torts, and compliance with the Public Information Act and Open Meetings Act. The Assistant Attorney General will be expected to attend Board of Trustee meetings as well as meetings with students and families regarding implementation of individualized education programs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. This position will also occasionally provide support to the Maryland State Department of Education unit of the Office of the Attorney General.
