At the Finance and Warrant Commission (FinCom) June 2019 meeting, members voted to elect Barb Delisle as their new Chair. Ms. Delisle has served as a member of FinCom since 2013. What To Do During a Heat Wave:
- Watch or listen to the weather forecast for updates
- Never leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
- Eat small meals and eat more often.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes.
- Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothing. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.
- Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.
- Postpone outdoor games and activities.
- Use a buddy system when working in excessive heat.
- Take frequent breaks if you must work outdoors.
- Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat.
- Check on your animals frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat.

Did You Know:
Mosquito populations are active into the fall? The Westwood Board of Health would like to remind residents to take action to avoid mosquito bites and reduce mosquito populations. The risk of contracting EEE and WNV from an infected mosquito is heightened through early October. Mosquitoes can carry disease until the first hard frost.
To avoid mosquitoes please consider the following:
- Limit your time outdoors during peak periods of mosquito activity (dusk and dawn) or if you must remain outdoors, wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants.
- Use a mosquito repellent that contains DEET (the chemical N-N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) and follow the directions on the label.
- Take special care to cover up the arms and legs of children playing outdoors. When you bring a baby outdoors, cover the baby’s carriage or playpen with mosquito netting.
- Fix holes in your screens and make sure they are tight-fitting on all doors and windows.
- Remove standing water around your home. Make sure water does not collect and stagnate in ceramic pots, trash cans, recycling containers, old tires, wading pools, birds baths, etc. Remove leaves and debris that may prevent drainage of roof gutters.

Westwood Girls Win State Championship
The Westwood Rovers 7/8th grade girls youth soccer team won their age bracket and were named State Champions in this past weekend's Massachusetts Tournament of Champions. The Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) is a season-ending tournament that brings together age/gender group champions from participating town-based travel leagues from across the state.
This is the first time in more than a decade that a team from Westwood has won their age bracket at MTOC! To qualify, the Rovers finished on top of their section with an impressive 6-3-1 record during the Boston Area Youth Soccer(BAYS) 10 week spring season. The girls then defeated all opponents in the BAYS playoff rounds to advance to the statewide MTOC, where they prevailed over challengers from West Bridgewater, Marshfield, Pepperell, and Berkshire Hills. In the finals, they won 2-1 in a hard fought battle over a team from Arlington with the game going all the way to nail-biting penalty kicks!
The Westwood Rovers team was coached by Terry Connaughton, Chris McCusker, Chris Hancock, and Derek DeStefano. Many of the 17 girls have played in Westwood Youth Soccer since Kindergarten!
