Letter from the Town Administrator

Residents,

Westwood Day 2018 the best Westwood Day we’ve had to date.

To the community, thank you for making Westwood Day an outstanding success.  Thank you for coming out and enjoying the day.  We appreciate your support!

To our sponsors, you are the foundation of our event and we appreciate all you do and all you contribute to make Westwood Day a success year after year!

And finally, to the staff and volunteers of the Town, especially the Recreation Department, Police, Fire, School and DPW, your hard work and dedication to this event is immeasurable.  Thank you for continuing to go above and beyond to make Westwood Day the spectacular community event that it is.

On a separate matter, I’d like to remind everyone that the East Street Bridge work will be in full swing this weekend, Saturday, October 20 from 12AM until Sunday Night, October 21st.

  • The roadway will be closed to through traffic and a detailed detour route will be implemented from both sides of the bridge and proper signage/ message boards will be installed in advance of the shutdown
  • MBTA will transport train commuters by bus from Norwood Station to Dedham
  • Work will be completed Sunday night at some point and road will reopen upon completion for Monday morning commute
  • Work will consist of precast installation for new bridge abutment
  • A Police Detail will be in place daily

A second weekend closure is scheduled for Friday, November 9 until Sunday, November 11.

All of this information can also be found on the Town Website, Facebook and Twitter.  A Robo Call will be sent out Friday to remind residents of the impending closure.

The new bridge will be a welcomed enhancement to Westwood and we thank the MBTA for making the safety of commuter’s a top priority by replacing the bridge.

Respectfully,

Mikes sig

News from the Fire Department

October is Fire Prevention Month and the Westwood Fire Department would like to give you some tips to help keep your family and home as safe as possible. Homes today are filled with synthetic materials which results in fire spreading much more quickly than it did when furnishings were made off cotton and wool. Forty years ago people would have, on average, 17 minutes to escape a burning home, now it’s more like 3 minutes. This is why it is so important to have the proper number of working smoke alarms in your house. Working smoke alarms cut your risk of perishing in a house fire in half. Make sure that everyone in your home knows what the smoke alarms sound like and what to do when they go off. It’s a good idea to test smoke alarms monthly by using the test button and replace the batteries annually.

Practice makes perfect, so practice evacuating and establish a designated meeting place that is a safe distance from your home. A meeting place will allow you to know that everyone has made it safely out. Once you are safely outside call 911. Never go back in to retrieve pets, they are very resourceful and will usually find their way out. Remember, minutes matter so get out and stay out! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
