Save the Date for Love Your Heart 2026!
Love Your Heart is taking place over Valentine’s week, February 9 – 14! This annual event brings together organizations across the U.S. and Mexico to provide free blood pressure screenings to the public – helping the community get to know their blood pressure numbers and take charge of their own heart health.

Community partners are encouraged to help identify and nominate strong community leaders who would be a good fit for the Council. Individuals may also self-nominate.

San Diego Food Bank Present the Spread the Love Nut Butter Drive - Join the San Diego Food Bank’s inaugural nut butter food drive, February 1-28, and help provide protein-rich food to children and families across San Diego County. Please help stock the shelves with kid-friendly, protein-packed food by donating nut butter at various locations. Peanut butter and all types of nut butter are welcome!

NEW! American Red Cross - The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage as requests from hospitals exceed the available supply of blood, leading to about a 35% drawdown of blood products in the past month. Individuals are urged to give now so patients don’t face delays in lifesaving care. The shortage is especially serious for platelets, types O, A negative and B negative blood.
- Book an appointment to give blood or platelets now by using the Blood Donor App, visiting the Red Cross website or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Community Power Efficient Refrigeration Program - Community Power is providing energy-efficient refrigerators and freezers at no cost to corner stores to stock California-grown fresh foods, thanks to funding from the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Gleaning in Chula Vista - Gleaning is the collection of surplus food from farms, gardens, and backyards to address food insecurity. Community members can donate extra backyard fruit or volunteer as gleaners or drivers with ProduceGood. Opportunities are open to all ages, families, and groups.

NEW! 420 Remix PSA Context
The North Coastal Prevention Coalition’s (NCPC) annual 420 Remix Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest has officially launched!
This year’s theme, “Be Smart, Don’t Start,” invites students in grades 6th-12th in San Diego County to use their creativity to promote healthy, substance-free choices through a 30-second reel, 2-minute video, flyer or still image PSA.

Receive free tax filing assistance online or at a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site!
Individuals may be eligible for federal tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC), as well as state credits including the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC), which can put money back in their pocket. Trusted tax preparers will review each situation to identify all available credits, helping to maximize refunds or reduce the amount owed.

NEW! Medi-Cal Program Changes (2026–2027)
Beginning in 2026, Medi-Cal will introduce several changes affecting eligibility, enrollment, and benefits for certain members. While most Medi-Cal members will continue to receive the same health coverage, updates will impact seniors, people with disabilities, undocumented adults, and some lawfully present immigrants, including new asset limits, enrollment restrictions, dental coverage changes, and monthly premiums starting in 2027.

Getting Dental Care for Seniors
Getting Dental Care for Seniors highlights why your oral health is important and how taking care of your mouth helps you prevent pain and infection, eat the healthy foods you love, speak and smile with confidence, and keep feeling good as you age. It also explains how poor oral health is linked to heart disease, stroke, lung disease, diabetes, and oral cancer. Community health centers in San Diego provide medical care, dental care, mental health care, and so much more.

The County of San Diego contracts with community agencies to provide vaccines and make sure they are available to everyone, no matter their insurance status.
No-cost mobile vaccine services are available for community vaccine events, school-located vaccine events, and in-home vaccinations for those who qualify.
