The San Diego Hunger Coalition recently released their Summer 2024 San Diego Food Assistance brochures. These brochures provide information on the locations and hours of food pantries and distribution centers that are open to all, as well as CalFresh registration information! While swimming is a fun, healthy way to stay physically active during summer, pools can be dangerous for children, so it's important to keep them safe. Learn how to keep children safe in and around water by implementing these simple pool safety steps, visiting the CDC's Drowning Prevention webpage and by taking the Pool Safely Pledge.

Mosquito Bite Prevention
According to CDPH, June through September is prime mosquito season in California, with peak activity happening in August. Mosquito bites can spread diseases like West Nile virus. Mosquito bites can be prevented by using repellent registered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on all exposed skin. To learn more about mosquitoes and mosquito borne diseases, click here.

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
Every July, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health focuses on improving mental health outcomes for racial and ethnic minority and American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities. The theme for 2024 is Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities, and Connections. This theme calls on each of us to better understand how the unique environments, cultures, histories, and circumstances of racial and ethnic minority and AI/AN populations impact their mental health.

Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program
The California Department of Education recently announced that they are accepting applications for the Classified School Employee Summer Assistance Program. This program provides up to a dollar-for-dollar match on amounts withheld from a participating local educational agency's classified school employees' monthly paychecks during the 2024-25 school year. Applications are due July 31.

Attendance Awareness Webinar
The Attendance Works Organization recently announced that they will be hosting their third Attendance Awareness Campaign webinar on August 7, from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM PST. This webinar will explore how the transition to school in the fall can be leveraged to nurture engagement, nourish relationships, and cultivate a routine of regular attendance. San Diego Public Library services is hosting their Innovate, Discover, Experience, Achieve (IDEA) Labs at several locations this summer. The IDEA Lab is open to all, and aims to inspire an interest in science, technology, design, and 21st century skills for the people who are served by the library. Every Wednesday this July, San Diego County Credit Union is hosting a free virtual SDCCU Biz Kid$ Summer Series to help engage kids during summer break. The series of presentations provides fun and interactive ways to learn about money and business.
