Earth Day With the County of San Diego

The Earth Day Fair will be held at the County Operations Center, 5500 Overland Drive, from 11 am - 1 pm on April 22nd, 2024. To help the celebration last all year long, the County of San Diego has recently posted online resources on events you can join, how-to videos, hikes, science and technology activities, e-book collections, and proactive ways to live more sustainably.

Public Health Updates

Tuberculosis Prevention

California is experiencing a substantial increase in tuberculosis (TB). Since 2020, TB cases in California have been increasing each year, for a total increase of 24%. To help prevent further spread of TB, the California Department of Public Health has released materials encouraging TB awareness and prevention.

National Minority Health Month

April is National Minority Health Month — a chance to highlight the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minority communities and reducing health disparities. Check out this National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NMHM) schedule of events, and explore resources from FDA’s Office of Minority Health and Health Equity to learn about health equity.

Announcements for IHEs

American Indians into Psychology

The Office of Minority Health is working alongside the Indian Health Service to provide grants to institutions of higher education to increase the number of Indian clinical psychologists who deliver health care services to American Indian/Alaska Native communities. Applications are due May 14th, 2024.

American Indians into Nursing

The Office of Minority Health is working alongside the Indian Health Service to provide funding to support the recruitment and training of American Indian and Alaska Native people to become baccalaureate-prepared nurses and advanced practice nurses, nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners. Applications are due May 14th, 2024.

Announcements for Students

American Association of University Women Scholarship

The American Association of University Women Carlsbad-Oceanside-Vista Branch is sponsoring the Jeanne Gruenwald $2,000 scholarship for eligible female students at MiraCosta College, Palomar College and California State University San Marcos. Applications are due May 31st, 2024.

CDPH Pathways Fellowship and Internship Program

The CDPH California Pathways into Public Health program is now accepting applications. Pathways provides training, hands-on work experience, and ongoing support for people interested in a career in public health. Part-time internship applications for current college students are due April 22nd, 2024.
