Specialized Secondary Programs Grant
The California Department of Education is now accepting applications for the Specialized Secondary Programs Grants (SSP). SSP provides start-up funds for the establishment of a new specialized program or school, to provide advanced instruction and training in high technology fields and in the performing arts, for students in grades nine through twelve. Grant applications are being accepted until May 29th, 2024.

March is National Nutrition Month!
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ National Nutrition Month campaign invites everyone to learn about making informed food choices and developing healthful eating and physical activity habits. Teaching children proper nutrition early in life is especially important, because 20% of young people aged 2 to 19 years have obesity, which can put them at risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers.

Preventing Alcohol Abuse in Middle School
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) launched a new web resource, NIAAA for Middle School. This resource contains interactive activities to help parents, caregivers, and teachers of middle school students introduce and reinforce key messages about peer pressure, resistance skills, and other important topics related to underage drinking.

Asthma Control EXHALE Grant
The CDC's National Asthma Control Program recently announced a new grant opportunity that will provide funds for K-12 schools to provide training and support on asthma control methods. Grant applications will be accepted until April 19th, 2024 at 8:59 PM PST.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Grant
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program will grant funds to eligible elementary school sites participating in the National School Lunch Program to provide students with a variety of free, fresh fruit and vegetable snacks during the school day as a supplement to, and not part of, the school breakfast and lunch programs, and to teach students about good nutrition. Grant applications are being accepted until April 2nd, 2024.

Migrant Education Program Grant
The California Department of Education is now accepting applications for the Migrant Education Program Grant. The purpose of this grant is to ensure that all migratory students can meet the challenging state academic standards that all children are expected to meet. Funding will be used to help migrant students overcome educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, varying health related needs and other factors that inhibit the ability of migratory children to succeed in schools. Applications close April 5th, 2024.

Salk: Heithoff-Brody High School Scholars Program
The Salk Institute recently announced the Heithoff-Brody High School Summers Scholars Program 2024. This eight-week paid internship is an opportunity for high school students to gain real-life experience performing scientific research while developing skill sets needed for careers in a STEM field while being mentored by Salk scientists. Applications close April 5th, 2024.

Egg-cellent Activities in Parks
The County of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department recently released their spring calendar with a fun mix of family activities, from a creative craft fair and vibrant spring festival to ample opportunities to hunt for eggs, enjoy breakfast and take photos with a famous bunny. Jones Family Foundation Scholarships
The Jones Family Foundation recently announced that it will be awarding $1,000 scholarships to high school students in grades 10, 11, and 12 demonstrating a cumulative weighted G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher. At least 10 scholarships will be awarded at each grade level. Applications are due April 1st.
