Scholarships for Aspiring Water Professionals

Water agencies across San Diego County and California water associations currently offer multiple college scholarship opportunities to help interested students secure their education as water and wastewater professionals. Scholarships are available for community colleges, four-year colleges and universities, and graduate-level programs. Visit the San Diego County Water Authority webpage to see a list of opportunities for the 2024-25 school year.

Public Health Updates

National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Earlier this week the CDC recognized National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a day to promote HIV testing, prevention, and treatment in American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities. In 2021, only 80% of American Indian/ Alaska Native persons living with HIV, knew of their positive HIV status - the lowest of any racial/ethnic group.

National Human Trafficking Prevention Framework

The Department of Health and Human Services recently announced the National Human Trafficking Prevention Framework. This framework is designed to help communities, organizations, and governments strengthen efforts around human trafficking prevention.

Environmental Health Sciences Core Centers Grant

Recently, the National Institues of Health announced a grant to establish Environmental Health Sciences Core Centers (EHS CC). An EHS CC will serve as an intellectual hub for environmental health research providing critical research infrastructure, shared facilities, services, and resources. Applications are being accepted until April 19th.

Global Undergraduate Exchange Program Grant

The Office of Academic Exchange Programs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recently announced a call for applications for the 2024 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program Grant. Funding from this grant will be used to provide financial aid to undergraduate students who study abroad for a semester. Applications are being accepted until May 20th.

Student Loan Forgiveness

The Biden Administration recently announced that it is automatically discharging more than $1.2 billion in loans for nearly 153,000 borrowers through. Borrowers are strongly encouraged to explore eligibility and sign up for the Saving on a Valuable Education plan immediately.

Extended Opportunity Programs & Services

San Diego City College is offering a free Summer Readiness Program through their Extended Opportunity Programs and Services to all 1st year students, who plan to enroll in at least 12 units. The program is four weeks long and will be held between June 10th - July 5th. Applications are being accepted until May 24th.
