Two connected rail improvement projects are now underway along the St. Charles Streetcar Line to improve accessibility, replace aging infrastructure, and strengthen the long-term reliability of one of New Orleans' most iconic transit corridors. Together, these investments represent another step toward preserving and modernizing the streetcar system for future generations.
During construction, portions of the St. Charles Streetcar Line will be temporarily out of service, with bus bridge service operating to help riders continue their trips while work is underway. RTA encourages riders to plan ahead and stay informed as construction progresses.
The New Orleans East Service Improvement Plan survey remains open through August 31, and RTA encourages riders, residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to share their feedback. Survey responses will help identify opportunities to improve reliability, connectivity, and access to jobs, education, healthcare, shopping, and other essential destinations throughout New Orleans East.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Community Kickoff Meeting and shared valuable ideas and feedback. Your participation marks an important first step in this community-driven planning process, and we look forward to continuing the conversation through future outreach and engagement opportunities.
Every survey response helps ensure the future of transit in New Orleans East reflects the needs and priorities of the community.

RTA recently hosted its 18th Annual Emergency Transportation Community Meeting for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities, bringing together residents and community partners to help ensure our most vulnerable populations are prepared for hurricane season. The annual meeting provides valuable emergency preparedness information and transportation resources to support the community before, during, and after a storm.
Thank you to this year's participating partners for sharing their expertise and resources, including the New Orleans Health Department (NOHD), New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS), New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD), Metropolitan Human Services District, Louisiana SPCA, Humana, and the American Red Cross of Louisiana.
By working together, RTA and its community partners continue to strengthen emergency preparedness efforts and help ensure seniors and persons with disabilities have access to the information and support they need during hurricane season.
Five high school students recently completed their summer internship at RTA through the agency's ongoing partnership with YouthForce NOLA. Over the course of five weeks, interns gained hands-on experience while working alongside staff in Scheduling and Planning, Emergency Management & Safety, and Community Engagement/Marketing & Communications, developing valuable professional skills and learning more about careers in public transportation.
Throughout the program, interns contributed to meaningful projects, received mentorship from RTA employees, and concluded their experience by presenting capstone projects that showcased what they learned during their time with the agency.
Thank you to our YouthForce NOLA interns for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and hard work this summer. RTA is proud to support the next generation of leaders by providing opportunities that prepare young people for future success in the workforce.
