Streetcar grand reopening

Join us for the grand streetcar reopening celebration on Saturday, December 11 at 10 am located at the foot of Canal Street. You and your family are also encouraged to bring new, unwrapped gift(s) to donate to the RTA’s Toys for Tots drive. There will be hot chocolate, holiday music and be sure to bring a camera so you can take photos with Santa and the streetcar.


 

RTA awarded $18.5M in USDOT funding for new transit hubs and modern fare systems

The RTA announced the award of $18,500,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) Grant. The agency intends to utilize the funding to deliver a suite of public transit improvements including the design and construction of two new neighborhood transit hubs and a fare technology system that will integrate mobile, tap card, credit card, and modern payment technologies.

RTA awarded APTA '21 Rail Safety Certificate of Merit for Light Rail/Streetcar

Awards

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) was named the winner of American Public Transportation Association (APTA)’s 2021 Rail Safety Certificate of Merit award for Light Rail/Streetcar systems. The Gold Award and Certificate of Merit winners were announced at APTA’s Transform EXPO held in Orlando, Florida.

RTA awarded rail safety grant funding from Operation Lifesaver, Inc.

Operation Lifesaver

The RTA was awarded $20,000 from Operation Lifesaver, Inc. for streetcar safety initiatives. The agency intends to utilize the funding to launch a public outreach safety campaign to address unsafe pedestrian activities and behaviors as well as left-turn streetcar-vehicle collisions. RTA was one of six agencies in four states awarded funding to support various rail safety initiatives.

RTA joins FTA’s Climate Sustainable Transit for a Healthy Planet Challenge

The RTA’s Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution supporting the agency’s participation in the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Climate Sustainable Transit for a Healthy Planet Challenge. RTA joins more than 70 transit agencies across the country in signing a pledge to develop a climate action, electrification or sustainability plan that details greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction strategies. Example of GHG strategies include converting fleets to electric buses and making facilities more energy efficient. RTA’s commitment to lowering emissions is part of the larger network redesign which looks to address more equitable connectivity for riders in the region.

RTA hosts Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Opportunity event

DBE meeting

On November 3rd, RTA hosted a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Opportunity Meeting at our historic Napoleon Ave. facility. Attendees were able to take advantage of the opportunity to get information about the upcoming renovation project, our procurement process, and DBE requirements.
