KREWE OF DOLLY RESCHEDULES CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR DOLLY PARTON TO 9/25 (9-2/to-5) AND CITY WILL PROCLAIM IT “DOLLY DAY”
New Date Brings Krewe, City and City Council Together to Honor Dolly Parton
NEW ORLEANS — The Krewe of Dolly announced today that its Dolly Parton Celebration of Life, originally planned for Saturday, September 5, will move to Friday, September 25 — “9 to 5 Day” — with Mayor Helena Moreno and the New Orleans City Council planning to officially recognize the day as “Dolly Day” in New Orleans.
The move is necessary because the French Quarter was already approved for a major special event on September 5th which prohibits additional parades, but the new date of 9/25 will allow additional time for organizers and the City to coordinate logistics and build an even more memorable celebration honoring the life, joy, generosity and extraordinary legacy of Dolly Parton.
Dolly once said, “We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.” Organizers are embracing Dolly’s outlook and adjusting the sails, even seeing the new date as a blessing in disguise.
The revised September 25 date will give New Orleans’ own “Dollies” a little more time to prepare for a celebration worthy of an icon. Organizers also hope the date can become the beginning of a new annual Krewe tradition—gathering on September 25, 9-to-5 Day, to celebrate the joy, generosity, kindness and spirit Dolly inspired in generations of fans.
Organizers recognize that the schedule change may be disappointing for those who had already adjusted their calendars to attend and expressed their gratitude for the community’s flexibility and enthusiasm.
“We’re New Orleans — we know how to celebrate the people who bring joy to the world, and there are few people who brought more joy, love and kindness to others than Dolly Parton,” said Mayor Helena Moreno. “Moving this celebration to September 25 gives us an opportunity to make it even more special. I’m excited to join with the City Council to recognize 9/25 as Dolly Day in New Orleans and to welcome all the Dollies for a celebration filled with music, rhinestones and, most importantly, the incredible spirit of generosity that Dolly represented.”
Additional details regarding the September 25 celebration, including the parade route, schedule and festivities, will be announced in the coming weeks.
