Moreno Administration Releases First Six-Month Report: Building a Stronger New Orleans While Recognizing There Is Much More Work Ahead
NEW ORLEANS — Mayor Helena Moreno today released Building a Stronger New Orleans: The First Six Months of the Moreno Administration, a report highlighting the Administration’s work to strengthen City finances, improve public safety, invest in neighborhoods, modernize infrastructure, and lay the foundation for long-term economic growth.
The report outlines progress made since January 12, 2026 despite inheriting one of the most difficult financial situations in modern City history and infrastructure challenges. Mayor Moreno’s administration is proving through action that progress is possible for New Orleans, but the work is far from finished.
A few of the Administration’s major accomplishments include:
-
Laying the foundation for long-term fiscal stability by rebuilding more than $100 million in emergency reserves, securing $125 million in additional revenues, repaying the City’s Revenue Anticipation Note (RAN) on time, and submitting the 2025 audit on time.
-
Reducing violent crime, with homicides down 22%, nonfatal shootings down 19%, and murders down 9% compared to the same period last year.
-
Improving neighborhood infrastructure by restoring more than 5,100 streetlights, repairing over 15,000 potholes, and completing more than 1,300 linear feet of sidewalk improvements.
-
Advancing Sewerage & Water Board reform, securing state legislation that gives the City and City Council greater oversight and launching the Public Utility Modernization Process (PUMPS) to prepare for local legislative changes for improved accountability and outcomes.
-
Expanding jobs and economic development, launching the New Orleans East Job and Investment Corridors, advancing major redevelopment projects including Charity Hospital and the Omni Hotel expansion, launching the Canal Street Revitalization Initiative, and strengthening regional partnerships to attract investment and create jobs.
-
Strengthening emergency preparedness and public safety coordination, successfully managing major events including Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, French Quarter Festival, ESSENCE Festival, and SAIL250 while maintaining public safety.
-
Implementing government reforms that reduced overtime spending, unnecessary travel, and overall General Fund spending while protecting essential city services.
-
Expanding neighborhood investment and quality of life initiatives, advancing blight reduction, park improvements, community redevelopment, public health initiatives, and investments in underserved neighborhoods.
While celebrating the progress made during the Administration’s first six months, Mayor Moreno stressed that the report represents a foundation, not a finish line.
Mayor Helena Moreno said:
“I’m proud of what our team has accomplished in just six months, especially considering the challenges we inherited, but I know there is still so much work to do. Every single day we work with urgency for the people of New Orleans. You are my top priority. We will keep tackling our financial challenges responsibly, improving city services, making our neighborhoods safer, creating more opportunity, and building a stronger New Orleans. We are just getting started.”
