NOPD Arrests Two for DWI, Issues 89 Citations in Recent DWI Saturation Patrol
New Orleans- NOPD's Traffic Division arrested two individuals for DWI and issued 89 citations during last Thursday's (June 18, 2026) DWI Saturation Patrol.
The patrol was part of NOPD's continuing efforts to reduce the number of fatal crashes as well as provide safer streets for motorists and pedestrians alike throughout New Orleans.
This targeted enforcement included additional officers who patrolled in the Second and Sixth Districts in areas with a history of alcohol-related crashes and violations. It was designed to identify and remove impaired drivers from the roadway, deter unsafe driving behaviors and promote public awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.
Here is the Enforcement Activity Summary:
-
Traffic Stops Conducted: 36
-
Citations Issued: 89 (including insurance violations, seatbelt violations, and other moving infractions)
-
DWI Arrests: 2 (drivers found to be operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol)
-
Summons Issued: 1 (non-custodial offense requiring court appearance)
"These results reflect both the vigilance of our officers and the importance of proactive enforcement in preventing tragedies on our roads. While the majority of drivers encountered were in compliance with traffic laws, the arrests and citations show the continued need for enforcement and public awareness," says Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick.
The Traffic Division remains committed to reducing impaired driving through these proactive patrols, community outreach and partnerships with local organizations.
Therefore, another DWI Saturation Patrol is slated for this Thursday (June 25, 2026). The patrols will begin at undisclosed locations at approximately 7:00 p.m., and continue overnight. Motorists will not see specific checkpoints, but may be pulled over in any of the city's eight police districts if officers see signs of impairment or other violations.
NOPD encourages all motorists to plan ahead, use designated drivers, and make responsible choices to ensure their safety and that of others.
If you suspect someone is driving impaired, please call 911.
