TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Eastbound Morrison Road Closure for Improvement Project Beginning March 31

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans announced today that the Department of Public Works (DPW), in coordination with contractor RNGD, will close eastbound Morrison Road to through traffic between Mayo Boulevard and Bundy Road beginning March 31, 2026, as construction continues for the DPW574 Morrison Road Improvement Project.

This $23.6 million project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and the City of New Orleans Bond Program and includes roadway, bridge, and sidewalk improvements to enhance safety, accessibility, and travel options for people walking, biking, and driving. 

Beginning March 31, 2026, eastbound through traffic on Morrison Road will be detoured between Mayo Boulevard and Bundy Road to the I-10 Service Road. Detour signage will be in place to guide drivers with the detours. During this time, the Lawrence Canal Bridge will be closed. A temporary detour will route eastbound motorists along I-10 Service Road North between Mayo Boulevard and Bundy Road. 

This phase is expected to last approximately one month. Following this phase, additional impacts to Morrison Road will occur throughout the duration of the DPW574 Morrison Road Improvement Project.  

Temporary traffic controls will be established to allow residents and businesses along the south side of Morrison Road to access properties near closed bridges.  Please follow all signs and detours. 

Construction is projected to continue through July 2027.  The city will provide updates on any changes to traffic patterns as construction progresses. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the city works to mitigate construction impacts.
