Mayor Helena Moreno issues statement regarding ICE presence at Louis Armstrong International

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor Helena Moreno issues statement regarding ICE presence at Louis Armstrong International Airport.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel are present at Louis Armstrong International Airport, as well as in more than a dozen airports across the country, to support TSA operations.

I’ve received confirmation that personnel in New Orleans are only assisting with check point operations such as line management and crowd control, not immigration enforcement.

I recognize that the presence of ICE in public spaces can raise concerns in our community, which is why I’ve been in constant communication with airport officials and will continue to monitor the situation closely. My priority is ensuring that all travelers feel safe, respected, and informed. Transparency and accountability regarding the role of any federal agents operating within our airport is essential.

At the same time, the most effective and appropriate long-term solution is ensuring that TSA is fully staffed and that its workforce is properly supported and compensated to meet operational demands.”
