TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Eastbound Morrison Road Closure Rescheduled to March 2
NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that the Department of Public Works (DPW), in coordination with contractor RNGD, has rescheduled the start of construction requiring the eastbound closure of Morrison Road between Mayo Boulevard and Bundy Road. The closure will now begin the week of March 2, 2026.
The adjustment allows for completion of final pre-construction approvals.
This $23.6 million DPW574 Morrison Road Improvement Project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and the City of New Orleans Bond Program. The project includes roadway, bridge, street, and sidewalk improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and mobility for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
Beginning the week of March 2, eastbound through traffic on Morrison Road between Mayo Boulevard and Bundy Road will be detoured to the I-10 Service Road. Clearly marked detour signage will be in place.
During this phase of construction, the eastbound Lawrence Canal Bridge, the eastbound Benson Canal Bridge, the intersection of Morrison Road at Lake Willow Drive/Primrose Drive, and the intersection of Morrison Road at Benson Court/Benson Street will be closed for construction.
This initial phase is expected to last approximately one month. Additional traffic impacts will occur throughout the duration of construction, which is anticipated to continue through July 2027.
Residents and businesses along the south side of Morrison Road will be permitted limited local access using the eastbound lanes in both directions, except between Crowder Boulevard and Benson Court, which will continue operating one-way eastbound. Eastbound traffic between Crowder Boulevard and Benson Court will be routed back to Crowder Boulevard via neighborhood streets. Westbound traffic on Morrison Road will not be detoured at this time.
The City will continue to provide updates as construction progresses and traffic patterns evolve.
