City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways Offers Free Wood Chips to Residents

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans Department of Parks & Parkways is pleased to announce that free wood chips will be available to Orleans Parish residents every Saturday from March 7 through May 30, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., at 1 Green

Parade Lane, New Orleans, Louisiana.

The wood chips are generated from routine, citywide tree trimming operations and are part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. By repurposing vegetative debris into usable mulch, the Department continues its efforts to divert green waste from local landfills and promote sustainable practices throughout the community.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free resource for landscaping, gardening, erosion control, and other outdoor projects.

Important Information for Participants:

  • Wood chips are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Residents must bring their own loading supplies, including shovels, gloves, bags, containers, and any other necessary equipment.
  • Staff will not be able to assist with loading.

This initiative supports the City’s broader sustainability goals while providing a practical benefit to residents.
