City Brings Streetlight Operations In-House

DPW has officially resumed in-house streetlight operations, marking a major step toward improving service reliability and strengthening accountability. By managing repairs internally and using the City’s upgraded asset management system, crews can now track outages in real time, assign work more efficiently, and verify repairs digitally. Since October, inspectors have logged more than 1,200 outage requests, and nearly 800 maintenance repairs have already been completed across neighborhoods citywide.

  Public Works Strengthens City Through Civic Engagement
DPW continues to build stronger connections with residents through community meetings and neighborhood outreach. Throughout October and November, staff engaged with residents at neighborhood association meetings, Civic Leadership Academy sessions, and Community Office Hours across multiple districts. DPW continues to make steady progress on road, sidewalk, drainage, and safety improvements across neighborhoods citywide. Below is a quick snapshot of major projects currently active or recently completed.
Alleyway Projects: Re-grading continues in the Southwest Quadrant of Lakeview, moving east from Louis XIV Street toward Canal Boulevard.
Sidewalk Construction Projects: ADA-compliant sidewalk replacements continue across multiple zones citywide.
DPW771: Asphalt ROW Improvements: Major resurfacing along Canal Street, Napoleon, Press Drive, Paris Avenue, and North Galvez is underway or recently completed.
DPW772: ROW Improvements — Phase 2: Paving is complete on Orleans Avenue and Moss Street, with striping finished in September.
DPW773: ROW Improvements: Crews continue resurfacing pavement and upgrading lighting and drainage in Exchange Alley behind Hotel Monteleone.
DPW775: Concrete ROW Improvements: Concrete roadway replacements and curb repairs continue in Lakeview, Algiers, and New Orleans East.
Lake Terrace & Oaks Group B & C: Roadway reconstruction on Bertha Street is in its final phase ahead of sidewalk and driveway work.
Lakeview North Group F & G: Drainage, sewer, and water line work continues across multiple blocks of General Diaz, Colbert, and Vicksburg.
Desire Group C & D: CCTV inspections are underway ahead of full roadway and drainage reconstruction across 110 blocks.
Audubon Group C: Utility inspections continue ahead of work on the 800–1100 blocks of Arabella Street.
Lower Ninth Northwest Group C: Subsurface utility repairs are underway on Egania Street ahead of full reconstruction across 15 blocks.
St. Anthony East/West Groups B & C: Utility work continues along Waldo, Wadsworth, London, Warrington, New York, and Allen Toussaint corridors.
  DPW continues to advance safety improvements and multimodal projects that support the City’s Complete Streets goals. These efforts aim to make New Orleans safer and more accessible for everyone—whether walking, biking, driving, or using transit.
Broad Street Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon Activated
The new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon at the Lafitte Greenway is now fully operational, providing a safer crossing for residents, commuters, and trail users along this busy corridor. This safety upgrade is part of the broader Broad Street Pedestrian Improvement Project, which also includes new signage, enhanced lighting, and improved visibility at intersections. Residents Invited to Help Shape the Morrison Road Improvements
DPW is moving forward with the redesign and reconstruction of the Morrison Road (Mayo–Bullard) corridor, a $23.6M project designed to improve safety, mobility, and quality of life for residents in New Orleans East. Planned improvements include bridge reconstruction, new bike lanes, upgraded sidewalks, ADA-compliant access, drainage and greenspace enhancements, and a reduction in travel lanes to help calm traffic and reduce speeding. A pre-construction community meeting is being planned, and residents and businesses along the corridor are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and stay informed throughout the construction process.  Amnesty Late Fee Forgiveness — Ends Nov. 30
The Amnesty Program ends November 30, 2025. Eligible parking and photo safety citations can be paid without late fees during this period. Booting is suspended for qualifying accounts. Pay online via PromisePay or in person at City Hall or the Auto Pound. More details ➡️ Click here
