Councilmember Lesli Harris Responds to Trump’s Threat to Send Troops to New Orleans

New Orleans, LA – Councilmember Lesli D. Harris (District B) today issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s recent threat to deploy U.S. troops to New Orleans:

“Sending troops into Black and Brown cities is not a solution – it’s a political stunt. If the federal government truly wants to help, it should invest in our city’s ongoing programs, especially those created to support young people, advance affordable housing, and eradicate blight.

We also need continued support for the strong local leadership we already have. Chief Kirkpatrick and the NOPD have been doing the work to reduce crime, strengthen community trust, and deliver results – without heavy-handed federal interference.

Our city is moving in the right direction because of smart local investments and leadership that understands New Orleans.”

Councilmember Harris emphasized that local leadership, not outside intervention, is the key to ensuring long-term public safety and stability for the residents of New Orleans.
