CITY OF NEW ORLEANS RESPONDS TO SUPREME COURT DECISION WITH CONCERN OVER EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans issued the following statement:

While the City respects the recent decision of the Supreme Court regarding trash collection in the French Quarter, we respectfully disagree with the Court’s rationale.

The City agrees with Justice Guidry’s dissent, which states that in granting this writ, it “amounts to judicial overreach and impermissibly impinges on the executive authority granted by the citizens of New Orleans through their Home Rule Charter."
