NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans officially kicked off its long-awaited Municipal ID the Crescent City ID Program with a successful event at the historic Gallier Hall on July 28, marking a major step toward ensuring equitable access to identification, city services, and community inclusion.
The event brought together City leadership, community advocates, and local business partners to celebrate the launch of the new program. Mayor LaToya Cantrell delivered remarks, reaffirming the City’s commitment to equity and inclusion for all New Orleanians.
“The Crescent City ID represents more than just access it symbolizes belonging,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “Every resident deserves to feel seen, supported, and connected. This card is a tool to empower our people and bring City services closer to those who need them most.”
In addition to serving as a government-issued ID, the Crescent City ID functions as a New Orleans Public Library card and a New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD) Rec Trac card. It also unlocks discounts at participating local businesses, making it a valuable and versatile resource for all New Orleans residents.
Mayor Cantrell was joined by Kahlida Lloyd, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Human Rights & Equity, and Daisy Reyes-Cabral, Program Manager for the Crescent City ID, who shared insights into the program’s development and vision.
“The Crescent City ID is more than just a card it’s a tool for equity,” said Kahlida Lloyd, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Human Rights & Equity. “As a city, we’re committed to removing barriers and creating pathways to opportunity. This program ensures that all residents can fully participate in the life of New Orleans.”
“I’m excited to see the Crescent City ID become a reality — it’s opening up so many new possibilities for our residents,” added Daisy Reyes-Cabral, Program Manager for the Crescent City ID. “Beyond access to city services, the program connects people to local resources and allows them to enjoy their city like tourists with pride and ease.”
Representatives from key program partners including the New Orleans Public Library, NORDC, and RTA also spoke, emphasizing how the ID card enhances access to their services. The program includes a local discount initiative called Around the Crescent City, connecting cardholders to deals at participating restaurants, coffee shops, and retailers.
