NEW ORLEANS - No decision with Bayou Boogaloo happened over night or in a vacuum. We have met and talked with the festival and neighbors for years. After months of discussions with festival organizers and neighborhood leadership that intensified over the last several weeks, we will be releasing the hold on Bayou Boogaloo’s 2025 special event permit. Leadership from both the festival and the neighborhood met last night to come to an understanding on what success looks like for both the festival and its surrounding neighbors. Bayou Boogaloo has adjusted its footprint and configuration this year, and City departments have been thoughtful to address safety concerns and neighborhood needs. All of that work is appreciated.
While it is unfortunate that taking something to the brink brings all parties to the table in a meaningful way, this process has shown constructive dialogue usually works. Given the ongoing conversations, there will be a meeting this summer for anyone interested in discussing the festival. I’m encouraged by the most recent meetings and remain optimistic that reasonable people can make reasonable accommodations for the enjoyment of all on the bayou.
