REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY SERVICE IMPACTS

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) bus and streetcar services will operate on a slightly reduced holiday schedule for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Please prepare for minor delays and detours around special events.

On New Year’s Eve, the Canal Street-Algiers Point Ferry will pause service from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. for the fireworks display. Service will resume from 12:30 a.m. to 1:15 a.m., with the final ferry departing Canal Street at 1:15 a.m.

For assistance planning trips, remember to download the RTA Le Pass app (available on the App Store and Google Play) by visiting norta.com, or by calling RTA’s Rideline at 504-248-3900.

As always, when attending major events, please consider using alternatives to driving such as RTA public transportation, taxis, rideshare services or bicycling, including Blue Bikes.

PUBLIC SAFETY TIPS

Working with local, state and federal partners, the NOPD will have a heavy presence of foot, vehicle and traffic personnel throughout the French Quarter and downtown areas during this time to keep residents and visitors safe. The NOPD will deploy additional law enforcement officers to its full staffing. This increased visibility will enhance public safety, provide crowd control, and allow for rapid response to any incidents.

While adequately staffed for the events, officers will also be on the lookout for intoxicated and impaired drivers throughout the city. The NOPD urges residents and visitors not to drink and drive. Instead, please use a designated driver or a ride-share service.

Firing guns to celebrate New Year’s Eve or any holiday is not only extremely dangerous but is prohibited by law and will be strictly enforced.

The New Orleans Fire Department would like to remind residents and visitors that the use of fireworks is illegal in the City of New Orleans and prohibited by law. There will be a professional fireworks display along the riverfront. Residents and visitors are urged to join in these sanctioned festivities.

As always, residents and visitors are encouraged to take care in large crowds, be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity to public safety officials.
