The event featured a compelling address by Frederick Delahoussaye, emphasizing the importance of honoring history, underscoring the enduring legacy of those who fought for justice and the ongoing commitment to equity and empowerment.
The revitalized park and mural now stand as symbols of hope and progress, inspiring all to continue building a stronger, more united community for generations to come.

The Winter Concert at The New Orleans Jazz Museum
The New Orleans Jazz Museum recently hosted The Winter Concert, an evening of romantic melodies and festive holiday songs performed by a talented lineup of artists, including Fermin Ceballos, Alesia Garcia, Israel Cedeno, Bremman Burgos, Cristina Kamins, and Alberto Chinchilla Jr. This special event brought together the community to celebrate the joy of music while supporting a meaningful cause—providing children in the Dominican Republic with access to music and arts education.
Alana Harris attended The Winter Concert and graciously accepted recognition on behalf of the Office of Cultural Economy staff. Her presence emphasized the office’s commitment to supporting cultural initiatives and fostering creative opportunities both locally and globally.
The evening provided a cozy and inspiring atmosphere where the magic of music came alive. Attendees left with hearts full of holiday spirit, inspired by the power of music to unite and uplift.

NOLA Idol Finalist Showcase: A Celebration of Local Talent
The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission proudly hosted the NOLA Idol Finalist Showcase, a vibrant celebration of New Orleans’ exceptional vocal talent. The event took place on December 11 at The Fillmore, drawing an enthusiastic crowd to witness the culmination of the inaugural NOLA Idol competition.
In a show of support for local arts and culture, Lisa Alexis, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy, attended the event, recognizing the finalists and celebrating their remarkable journey. Her presence highlighted the city’s dedication to fostering creative expression and uplifting aspiring artists.
Led by NORD Artist-in-Residence and Grammy Award-winning musician Irvin Mayfield, the NOLA Idol competition engaged communities citywide. It featured three rounds of auditions, celebrity coaching, and concluded with this spectacular grand finale.
This free, family-friendly event honored the rich musical heritage of New Orleans while showcasing the voices that are shaping the city’s future in music and culture.

The Workforce Program Coordinator will provide programmatic assistance and support with participant recruitment, delivering training programs, and job placement.
The Workforce Program Coordinator will report directly to the Workforce Program Director and the Media Education Director. This position is based in NOVAC’s Baton Rouge office and requires regular travel to New Orleans.

Expand Your Creativity for Free with NOVAC’s Born Digital Program
High school students in grades 8–12 are invited to join NOVAC’s Born Digital After School Program next semester, where they’ll gain hands-on experience in creative media production. Participants will receive free training in Adobe Premiere Pro, the film industry’s standard editing software, with an opportunity to earn professional certification and develop a creative portfolio to showcase their work.
Students from all learning backgrounds will to create their own content with their own voice after learning with NOVAC. Students will also have the opportunity to access high-wage digital media positions and be equipped with a comprehensive set of 21st century workplace skills. NOVAC students will be part of the next generation of storytellers, designers, makers, technologists, and artists.

Free Organ Demonstrations at HNOC’s
Experience the rich history and beautiful sounds of HNOC’s restored 1925 Aeolian player pipe organ during free demonstrations held Wednesday through Sunday at 11 a.m. This December, the program explores how the rapid modernization of the 1920s influenced holiday traditions.
These demonstrations provide a look into the past, showcasing a rare and technologically advanced musical instrument that was once a luxury in the homes of the most affluent. Installed by tobacco magnate William Ratcliffe Irby in 1918 as part of his lavish personal residence at 520 Royal Street, the organ remains one of the few surviving instruments in its original location. It was meticulously restored by the Holtkamp Organ Company to its working condition.
Additionally, this program is a bonus stop on the Creole Christmas Holiday Home Tour, featuring several historic French Quarter properties adorned in holiday finery, taking place December 27 to 29. Tour tickets are available from the Friends of the Cabildo.

Allstate Sugar Bowl New Year’s Parade
Get ready for a festive Mardi Gras-style parade with floats, bands, and other participants entertaining fans of all ages! The official Allstate Sugar Bowl New Year’s Parade, presented by Louisiana Tourism, will take place on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, starting at 2 p.m. The parade route will begin at the intersection of Elysian Fields Avenue and Decatur Street, traveling through the French Quarter along Decatur Street with iconic landmarks such as The Old US Mint, the French Market, Cafe du Monde, and Jackson Square, before concluding at Canal Street.
Check back for final route details and times. The parade will be broadcast live on Nola38CW (WNOL-TV) in New Orleans, with a live online broadcast available at wgno.com. The parade will also be rebroadcast on WGNO-TV ABC 26 on New Year’s Day starting at 9 a.m. Don’t miss this exciting New Year’s Eve tradition!

Camp Street Studios and Gallery is offering internship opportunities for qualified emerging artists, art historians, designers, and administrative professionals. Interns will gain valuable experience in public engagement, communication, promotion, art preparation, written publications, and video documentation. This paid position offers $15 per hour for onsite time, plus access to shared studio space.
Candidate Requirements:
- A time commitment of 10 hours a month onsite, with availability on Fridays and Saturdays from 12-5.
- Currently enrolled university student.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in fine arts or graphic design with a specialization in creation, administration, and/or art history.
- Experience in gallery work, including public engagement and handling fine art.
- Proficiency in Excel, G Suite, Square Space, and social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
- Motivation to use the provided studio space for at least 10 hours a month.

Lafitte Greenway Partnership (LGP) is seeking dedicated individuals to join its Board of Directors and help shape the organization’s future. As the official private non-profit partner to the City of New Orleans, LGP oversees the planning, programming, and operation of the Lafitte Greenway—a 2.6-mile linear park connecting the French Quarter to City Park.
The role requires a time commitment of up to 12 meetings per year and active participation in at least one committee or subcommittee. Applications are open until January 6, 2025, or when the first 30 applications are received. An LGP committee will review applications, and successful applicants will be notified by January 10th.

Teen Leadership Program 2025
The Teen Leadership Program offers a unique opportunity for older teens to become mentors and role models within the community as they engage with young artists. This program is perfect for teens who have aged out of traditional camp offerings or have a strong interest in working with children. Participants will attend training sessions focused on building essential skills to effectively engage and connect with young artists. Twice a month, they will join art-infused social events to foster creativity, teamwork, and community among fellow participants. During camp sessions, participants will work as classroom assistants, providing support to young artists and instructors in a structured environment.
Program Benefits:

- Gain valuable job skills, including teamwork, social-emotional learning, and positive reinforcement

City of New Orleans Launches "Music Census Sessions" to Support Local Music CommunityThe City of New Orleans Office of Nighttime Economy, in partnership with The Ella Project and the New Orleans Public Library, is excited to announce the launch of Music Census Sessions, a free year-long series of professional development workshops, roundtables, and networking events for the New Orleans music community.
Created in response to the findings of the New Orleans Music Census, this program focuses on equipping local musicians and music professionals with actionable business and industry skills to build, grow, and sustain their careers. In-person sessions will also feature virtual options when available, making this resource accessible to a wider audience.
The Music Census Sessions are designed for all experience levels, from newcomers to seasoned performers who have been shaping the city’s sound for decades. Each session focuses on practical, real-world topics, ensuring participants leave with strategies to thrive in an ever-evolving music landscape.
The first session begins in January 2025, and registration is now open.
