New Orleans Recreation Development Commission to Host Annual Halloween Festivities Across New Orleans

Celebrate Halloween with FREE Spooky Family Fun at NORD’s Citywide Events

 

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission invites the community to join in the Halloween spirit at its annual Recreation Center Spooktacular Haunted House on the Greenway and Monster Mile Walk and Run. These fun-filled events kick off on Friday, October 25, and run through Halloween, Thursday, October 31, at various NORD Commission locations across the city. All activities are free and open to the public.

 

Returning for its fourth year, NORD Commission's Haunted House on the Lafitte Greenway promises chills and thrills for visitors of all ages. The haunted house, located at the Brake Tag Station (600 N. Norman C. Francis Parkway), will be open on Friday, October 25, Saturday, October 26, and Thursday, October 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Halloween night, Thursday, October 31, the haunted house will also be hosted at Joe W. Brown Park (5601 Read Blvd) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guests are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy this spooky adventure at no cost.

 

For young people, the Monster Mile Walk and Run will be held on Saturday, October 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the Lafitte Greenway. Participants ages 5-17 will tackle a one-mile course beginning and ending at the Brake Tag Station, followed by a celebratory event for all runners and walkers. Registration is required at www.nordc.org, and participants will receive a free T-shirt and treat bag.

 

NORD Commission's beloved Spooktacular events will light up various recreation centers with festive decorations, community goodies, and plenty of trick-or-treat candy for the little ones. Costumes are encouraged at the Halloween themed celebrations, which will take place on Halloween night, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the following locations:

  • Cut-Off Recreation Center, 6600 Belgrade St.
  • Joe W. Brown Park, 5601 Read Blvd.
  • Lafitte Greenway, 2200 Lafitte Ave.

Additionally, all NORD Commission recreation centers will be passing out trick-or-treat candy to neighborhood youth on Halloween night. These centers include:

  • Annunciation Recreation Center, 900 Race St.
  • Atkinson Stern Tennis Center, 4025 S. Saratoga St.
  • Desire Florida, 3250 Industry St.
  • Gernon Brown Recreation Center, 1001 Harrison Ave.
  • Joe W. Brown Tennis Center, 5601 Read Blvd.
  • Lyons Recreation Center, 624 Louisiana Ave.
  • Milne Recreation Center, 5420 Franklin Ave.
  • Morris F.X. Jeff, Sr. Recreational Complex, 2529 General Meyer Ave.
  • Rosenwald Center, 1120 S. Broad St.
  • Sanchez Multi-Service Center, 1616 Caffin Ave.
  • Stallings St. Claude Recreation Center, 4300 St. Claude Ave.
  • Bernard Recreation Center, 1500 Lafreniere St.
  • Treme Recreation Center, 900 N. Villere St.
