Updated: TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Pedestrian Ramp Closure on Wisner Boulevard Bridge

Wisner

NEW ORLEANS — Effective immediately, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works’ contractor Renegade, formally known as Impetus Infrastructure, LLC, will restrict pedestrian access on the Wisner Boulevard bridge. This temporary closure is necessary to facilitate a full replacement of the DeSaix Bridge and will remain in effect for approximately 8 months.

Southbound pedestrians and bikers are to detour to Zachary Taylor Drive > Henry Thomas Drive > Roosevelt Mall > Collin Diboll Circle > Lelong Drive > Esplanade Avenue. Northbound pedestrians and bikers are to detour to Esplanade Avenue > Lelong Drive > Collin Diboll Circle > Enrique Alferez Drive > Henry Thomas Drive > Zachary Taylor Drive.

With increased traffic in the area due to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are all urged to exercise caution and share the roadway.

The $6 million DeSaix Boulevard (Bayou St. John Bridge) project was designed by Neel-Schaffer, Inc. and is being constructed by Impetus Construction, LLC. The scope of work for this project varies block-by-block, and the contractor will generally work from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by Winter of 2025, weather permitting.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 186 projects with an estimated value of $765 million. Today, 55 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $781 million.
