Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening of Headquarters by Nice Guys NOLA
We are delighted to share exciting news! Nice Guys NOLA, the renowned culinary enterprise, has expanded its footprint with the grand opening of Headquarters, a vibrant new venture nestled in a landmark of R&B and jazz history.
Located in the Central Business District, Headquarters occupies the iconic space previously known as Frank Douroux's Little Gem Saloon— a legendary jazz club. This transformation marks a significant milestone in the preservation of our city's rich musical heritage.
The grand opening of Headquarters was celebrated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and heartfelt remarks from co-owners Allison and Glenn Charles. The festivities continued with a star-studded guest list and captivating performances, featuring appearances by the Zulu Tramps and the Original Black Seminole Baby Dolls.

Risk Assessment for Performing Arts Organizations
The Performing Arts Readiness (PAR) project is offering free emergency preparedness webinars that are tailored to the needs of performing arts organizations during May-June. The next webinar will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
Natural disasters, local emergencies, and other disruptive events can have devastating effects on all sizes of performing arts organizations. This webinar will focus on mitigating risks at institutions, to prevent disasters from happening and to reduce the impact of unavoidable disasters. The session will clarify the need for risk assessment as a part of an organization’s disaster preparedness strategy, provide basic information on risk assessment tools and practices, and address how risk assessment can benefit performing arts organizations. The instructors will also present case studies as a part of the session, so participants can learn from actual disasters in performing arts organizations.

FY25 Folk & Traditional Arts Grants and Honorifics Webinar
Join program staff from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for an informational webinar on Wednesday, May 8, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. ET!
The webinar will focus on FY25 Grants for Art Projects, and the National Heritage Fellowships program, and will include an overview of funding opportunities, examples of successful projects, and things to consider when submitting an application or nomination. Lincoln Beach Consultant Team is Hiring
The Lincoln Beach Redevelopment Master Plan Consultant Team is currently hiring for five (5) Community Fellows to join their team. This exciting opportunity includes three (3) positions for New Orleans community members, one (1) for a bilingual Spanish speaker, and one (1) for a bilingual Vietnamese speaker. These fellows will play a crucial role in community outreach, engagement, and facilitation for the Lincoln Beach Redevelopment Master Plan. Historic Preservation and Certified Local Government Grants
The Louisiana Division of Historic Preservation will open the application period soon for 2024-2025 Historic Preservation and Certified Local Government Grants. Applications will become available on Wednesday, May 1 and can be found on the Division of Historic Preservation’s Grants webpage.
Applications will be accepted until Wednesday, May 29 at 5:00 p.m. Grant awards generally are between $3,000 and $80,000. Grant funds must be matched by non-federal monies on at least a 60/40 basis and are distributed on a reimbursable basis. Funding for the grants is provided through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service.

3rd Annual NOLA Teacher Festival
NOLA educators, get ready! The 3rd Annual NOLA Teacher Fest is presented by NSNO and sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Orleans Teacher Community. Last year, over 1,750 teachers participated, and over $65,000 in gift cards were given out to teachers! Teachers are invited to join on Friday, May 3 at Champions Square for free food, spirits, giveaways, and live entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite school shirt, bring their hat, and not forget their lawn chair for a day of fun and celebration.

A Private Film Screening of "Rugged & Funky"
During this year's New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, fans of the late great Professor Longhair can celebrate him and have the opportunity to watch a private preview screening of his long-awaited documentary film "Rugged and Funky," directed by Joshua Bagnall and executive produced by Diedra "Deepa Soul" Meredith. Professor Longhair, known as the "Originator of Funk and Rock & Roll" and "The Bach of Rock," dives into the life of this unsung musical genius. Like so many other black musicians of his time, and still today, he never got his due.
Attendees are invited to the Jazz Fest-style event at NOAAM on Friday, May 3, at 8:00 p.m. This event includes a private film screening of "Rugged & Funky" in the historic garden. It's advised to bring a chair for seating during the screening. Patrons can participate by making a donation of $25.00 or more to attend the private screening and celebrate the legacy of Professor Longhair.

Hancock Whitney Zoo-To-Do
The 46th annual Hancock Whitney Zoo-To-Do on Friday, May 3, will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the historic Odenheimer Complex at Audubon Zoo and Audubon Nature Institute’s Louisiana Pine Snake conservation efforts.
Hancock Whitney Zoo-To-Do is a 21+, black-tie fundraising event hosted at Audubon Zoo. Gala admission includes specialty cocktails, snacks and sips from dozens of New Orleans restaurants and bars, a fabulous silent auction, Lee Michael’s Fine Jewelry’s Pick-A-Present jewelry pull, and live entertainment.

Perspectives: A Neighborhood Photography Workshop with Paige DeVries (Off-Site)
Participants in the off-site workshop with 2023–24 Creative Assembly Cohort artist Paige DeVries will have the opportunity to explore the ways that photography with their phones can be used as an easily accessible, generative art-making tool. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at UNO St. Claude Gallery (2429 St. Claude Avenue).
During the workshop, participants will first view the artist’s solo show on display at the gallery and engage in discussions about how DeVries utilizes photography from her phone to inform her work as a painter. Following the gallery tour and conversation, DeVries will lead a photography exercise in the neighborhood surrounding the gallery.
Participants are encouraged to bring a phone they can use to take photographs during the workshop. The session will conclude with a sharing opportunity, where attendees can showcase and discuss the images they captured during the workshop. Advanced registration is required for this free workshop, and interested individuals should note that it takes place off-site at UNO St. Claude Gallery.

Music at the Museum: Alfred Banks & Introducing Sebastian St. John
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the region’s premier and GRAMMY® Award-winning orchestra, presents the final concert in its 23-24 Music at the Museum series – Alfred Banks & Introducing Sebastian St. John – on Wednesday, May 8 at the Ashe' Power House Theater at 6:00 p.m.
New Orleans native and Grammy nominated rapper Alfred Banks makes his LPO debut in a program featuring original works with a world premiere arrangement by Sebastian St. John. LPO musicians will also perform works by South Side Symphony founder and composer Marcus Norris, groundbreaking composer and pianist Max Richter, and New Orleans composer and musician Charles Lumar II.

Baby Artsplay
Join Young Audiences of Louisiana for “Baby Artsplay!” presented by The Helis Foundation on Thursday, May 9, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. This free 6-part workshop series is made possible by The Helis Foundation. The 30-minute workshops provide engaging arts-based activities designed to instruct caregivers on how to use the arts at home to promote early learning.
Lessons are conducted by certified Louisiana Wolf Trap Teaching Artists, who have expertly crafted multi-sensory experiences that foster children’s natural curiosity for learning. After each workshop, children and their caregivers can download digital Connection Cards for tips on how workshop activities can be continued at home.

Shakespeare's Tempest, Reimagined
Theatre for the bold takes on new meaning this spring as The NOLA Project weathers William Shakespeare's The Tempest. Featuring music, dance, fools, lovers, magic, and monsters, this adventurous reimagining is sure to be a feast for the senses. Following the success of Dracula and The Colored Museum, The NOLA Project closes out Season 19 with a stormy script adapted and directed by ensemble member James Bartelle.
Shakespeare's Tempest, Reimagined is presented in partnership with Friends of Lafitte Greenway and NORD from May 8 – 25. Join them on the Greenway (436 N Norman C Francis Parkway) in May as they forge a new way forward!
