City of New Orleans Reminds Residents of New Area 1 and Area 4 Trash and Recycling Collection Contracts to Begin April 1
NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans reminds residents that the new curbside trash and recycling collection contracts for Area 1 and Area 4 will begin on Monday, April 1. The new contracts with IV Waste and Richard’s Disposal include a seven-year agreement with the City of New Orleans to provide enhanced collection services to residents in Area 1 and Area 4.
“We are excited for the start of the new Area 1 and Area 4 collection contracts, which will provide for service parity across the city," said Director of Sanitation Matt Torri. "This administration has shown its commitment to cleaning up our city and providing much-needed, enhanced services for our residents."
Under the new contracts, IV Waste and Richard’s Disposal will introduce all-new equipment with additional equipment types to facilitate the efficient collection of bulk waste and furniture. All equipment will utilize a real-time GPS tracking system, 360-degree view camera system and route management technologies. IV Waste and Waste Pro will service the contracts via dedicated, full-time employees receiving comprehensive benefits packages and worker safety programs.
IV Waste will service households in Area 1, which includes Uptown, Lakewood, Hollygrove, Leonidas, Mid-City, Gert Town, Marlyville-Fontainebleau, Black Pearl, Lower Garden District and Central City. Richard’s Disposal will service households in Area 4, which includes Algiers Point, McDonogh, Whitney, Fischer, U.S. Naval Base, Behrman, Tall Timbers-Brechtel, Old Aurora and New Aurora-English Turn.
“The IV Waste Team is humbly honored to have been selected to provide waste removal and recycling services to New Orleans in Service Area 1, effective April 1," said IV Waste Owner and President Sidney Torres IV. "Our team will give the same excellent service as we have in Service Area 2, as well as we did in the French Quarter and Downtown Development District in years past. You may see our new trucks riding through your neighborhood as they are practicing the routes before our contract starts on April 1. We promise not to let our city down and will continue to keep it clean in New Orleans.”
“Richard's Disposal, Inc. is excited about the continued opportunity to serve the vibrant community of Algiers," said Richard's Disposal Founder and CEO Alvin Richard, Jr. "We are honored to have been selected as the contract provider for Service Area 4. Our team is eager to contribute to the city's cleanliness goals and engage with the community to ensure the success of this continued partnership.”
A door hanger with a magnet should be delivered to residents in these neighborhoods ahead of April 1 with their new trash and recycling collection day. Residents can also visit nola.gov/sanitation-collection-schedules/ to view their new collection day.
Beginning on April 1, residents can call 3-1-1 or visit nola311.org to request a second trash cart as part of the enhanced contract services. Residents will continue to utilize their existing trash cart for service. The City also reminds residents that have not yet requested a curbside recycling cart to do so via 3-1-1. There is no charge to residents for a second trash cart or recycling cart.
