Traffic Advisory: Bridge Closure on DeSaix Boulevard

Traffic Advisory: Bridge Closure on DeSaix Boulevard

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, weather permitting, Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Impetus Construction, LLC, will close the bridge on DeSaix Boulevard to begin full reconstruction. Public safety is our priority; signage will remain in place throughout the entirety of this work.

During construction, a detour has been established, redirecting all traffic onto Moss Street to connect to City Park via Esplanade Avenue and Moss Street. In addition, construction on Wisner Boulevard has necessitated a temporary lane reduction. Commuters are advised to expect delays and adjust their routes accordingly. Please exercise caution and follow posted detour signs within the construction zone. Residents and businesses will continue to be notified throughout the work. The bridge will re-open in December 2024.

The $6 million DeSaix Blvd (Bayou St. John Bridge) project was designed by Neel-Schaffer, Inc. and is being constructed by Impetus Construction, LLC. Click here to view the community meeting presentation and map of the project. The scope of work varies by block but includes bridge reconstruction, resurfacing the street entirely and streetscape improvements, such as ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections. The contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the winter of 2025, weather permitting.
