Traffic Advisory: Temporary Lane Closure on 5000 Block of Crowder Boulevard

Temporary Lane Closure on 5000 Block of Crowder Boulevard

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning Monday, Sept. 18, the Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor, Impetus Construction, LLC, will temporarily close a portion of the 5000 block of Crowder Boulevard, at the intersection of Dwyer Road, for approximately one week. The closure will allow crews to perform asphalt operations (mill and overlay) as part of the Plum Orchard/West Lake Forest Group B project.

An alternating lane closure will be in effect for southbound traffic traveling towards Chef Menteur Highway (see map). Motorists are advised to use caution, as large trucks and heavy machinery will be hauling materials in the area. Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure through a neighborhood canvassing effort.

Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be on-site to direct drivers and pedestrians.

The $7 million Plum Orchard/West Lake Forest Group B Infrastructure Improvement Project was designed by Pinnacle Engineering, LLC, and is being constructed by Impetus Construction, LLC. Click here to view the community meeting presentation and map of the project. The scope of work varies block-by-block but consists of repaving the asphalt roadway from curb-to-curb, replacing damaged portions of concrete with new concrete, patching the roadway with asphalt, repairing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons, installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections and replacing/repairing damaged underground water, sewer and/or drainage lines.

In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The entire project is scheduled to be completed within the fall of 2023, weather permitting.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 171 projects with an estimated value of $668 million. Today, 50 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $649 million.
