TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Intermittent Lane Closures on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

Intermittent Lane Closures on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning the week of Sept. 11, Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor, Boh Bros, will be installing flexible posts along sections of the protected bicycle lanes on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from South Claiborne Avenue to Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution during this time as traffic control measures will be removed and the roadway reopened to vehicle travel and parking. These changes are being conducted as part of the $4.8 million Martin Luther King Boulevard (St. Charles - South Claiborne) - Patch Mill Overlay project that is scheduled for completion in September 2023.

Riverbound traffic on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from South Claiborne Avenue to South Robertson Street, retained two general travel lanes and a parking lane. From South Robertson Street to St. Charles Avenue, the roadway was reconfigured to a general travel lane, parking lane and bike lane. The bike lane from South Robertson Street to St. Charles Avenue includes a mixture of striping and physical buffers, such as flexible posts, to separate riders from motor vehicle traffic.

Lakebound traffic on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, from St. Charles Avenue to Clara Street, the roadway was reconfigured to a general travel lane, parking lane and bike lane. From Clara Street to South Claiborne Avenue, two general travel lanes were retained along with a protected bike lane. The bike lane from Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard to South Claiborne Avenue includes a mixture of striping and physical buffers, such as flexible posts, to separate riders from motor vehicle traffic.
