Traffic Advisory: Temporary Lane Shift and Road Closures for Allen, Pleasure and New Orleans Streets Update

Temporary Lane Shift and Road Closures for Allen, Pleasure and New Orleans Streets Update

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Barriere Construction Company, LLC, is continuing to implement a series of closures and lane shifts to accommodate work in the Dillard neighborhood. Construction is underway, and the latest update is as follows:

  • The turning lane from Gentilly Boulevard to New Orleans Street is now open
  • The southbound travel lanes of the 3400-3500 blocks of New Orleans Street are open to vehicular traffic
  • The 1800-1900 blocks of Pleasure Street will have limited access to vehicular traffic
  • One of the northbound travel lanes on the 3300 block of Allen Street will be closed, and one lane will remain open for all vehicular traffic (see map)

This series of closures will be extended until Friday, Sept. 29 to complete the remaining utility repairs and roadway restoration as part of the Dillard Group A and B project.

Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. Motorists are advised to use caution during this time, as road closures and detours will be in effect. Residents and businesses in this area were notified of the closure through a neighborhood canvassing effort.  The $39.5 million Dillard Group A and B project was designed by Gaea Consultants and is being constructed by Barriere Construction Company, LLC. Click here to view the community meeting presentation and map of the project. The scope of work varies by block but includes repairing sewage, water and drainage lines, rebuilding the street entirely and repairing sidewalks and curbs. In general, the contractor is working from 7 a.m. until sunset, Monday through Friday. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2023, weather permitting. Since May 2018, DPW has completed 171 projects with an estimated value of $668 million. Today, 50 roadwork projects are under construction with an estimated value of nearly $649 million.
