TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Intermittent Road Closures on North Villere Street

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans announced that earlier today, at 7 a.m., Department of Public Works (DPW) construction contractor, Command Construction Industries, LLC, began performing watermain tie-ins on North Villere Street from Elysian Fields Avenue to Franklin Avenue.
During this time, intermittent lane closures will occur across the closed parking and travel lanes. The street will reopen to traffic at 5:30 p.m. each day (see map).
Public safety is our top priority; signage and traffic control measures, such as barrels and fencing, will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians. DPW asks that residents move all vehicles off the street. DPW also asks that residents please adhere to 'no parking' signage on the streets. Vehicles parked in these zones will be ticketed and towed. This work is expected to be completed by the end of day on Wednesday, July 19.
This temporary disruption of services is part of the $18.1 million St. Roch Drainage Upgrades joint infrastructure project with DPW and the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO).
Once complete, residents will experience an overall improved quality of life, as the project will improve subsurface drainage capacity between local streets and trunk lines and install green infrastructure, such as retention/detention basins and bioswales. This work is part of the FEMA-funded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP)’s Leveraged Gray/Green Infrastructure projects and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.
